How a typical analysis runs

The same workflow applies whether you're drafting a CalPERS QDRO or a CalSTRS Joinder.

1

Establish the community property fraction

Time Rule or Brown Formula — using hire date, marriage date, and separation date. CalPERS and CalSTRS each have distinct rules; the tools handle both.

2

Estimate the benefit and its present value

Run the Benefit Estimator at the expected retirement age, then discount the community share to today's dollars with the Present Value tool.

3

Model the settlement

Use the Offset Calculator to compare the pension share against a cash or property offset, then verify the overall division with the Settlement Worksheet.

Nine CalPERS tools. Ten CalSTRS tools. One flat monthly rate.
